Credit To Devils Fans For Showing More Fight Than Their Team Does On The Ice
When it comes to Devils and Rangers fans, I'm an equal opportunity hater. They're both two of the most abhorrent subspecies of humans on the planet, and I wish them both nothing but a lifetime supply of suffering and misery.
However, Devils fans have been getting it the worst lately. At least Rangers fans have had a little bit of hope in the past decade. Devils fans, on the other hand, finally landed a legitimate NHL superstar in Jack Hughes. And what do they do with him? Completely waste away precious time during the prime of his career because the team has no idea how to defend and protect themselves. It seems like after the Devils lost Miles Wood, it was open season for any team to go after whoever they want on the Devils because they know they aren't going to have to deal with any repercussions.
Take this massive hit the new guy on the Rangers laid on Nathan Bastian.
No first up, let's talk about the hit. Matt Rempe is like 9 feet tall. For some bizarre reason, Nathan Bastian is bent so far over that his head is barely at the top of the dasher boards. What on Earth is Matt Rempe supposed to do here when Bastian's head comes up to his dick and balls? Of course he's going to steamroll through the guy's skull, but he had no other option. It doesn't make any sense to kick a guy out of a game just because he's 7 feet tall.
While I don't think the hit should warrant getting tossed from the game, it sure as shit warrants someone on the Devils going over to Rempe and trying to cave his face in. And sure, Jonas Siegenthaler "technically" went after Rempe after that hit. But never had a single intention of actually fighting there.
Skates up to him and then immediately turns his back to turtle. Way to stick up for you guys!
Hell, later in the game Nathan Bastian got crushed AGAIN, and then had to fight for himself.
Fucking pathetic. Bastian already gets clobbered by Rempe. Now he gets steamrolled by Trouba. There are 4 other Devils out on the ice and not one of them even looks at Trouba after the hit. This dude who doesn't even know what month he's living in then has to chase Trouba down the ice to fight for himself.
Moral of the story here is that the Devils are a joke. They are going to get bullied mercilessly out there until they bring someone into that lineup who can do anything about it.
But at least their fans are willing to throw down if necessary. I mean it still wasn't the greatest look for buddy in the Hughes jersey. It's tough to a headbutt and then be on the receiving end of this punch from ol' Pauly Prosciutto.
But at least the fans are willing to fight. The boys on the ice could learn a thing or two.
